UPDATE #2: Just a reminder, I'll be the one with a red balloon! I'll send out my cell # the morning of the event, so check your email inbox. From 1 - 1:30pm, I'll check people in... then we'll be on our way! Please be ON TIME, or better yet EARLY. I suggest giving yourself at least a 1/2 hour buffer on your ETA. Once we're on the river, I WILL NOT have my cell phone on me! Hope to see you there!

To be fair to those who want to join in and are ready to make payment, I'll be removing those that haven't paid by Wednesday, August 18th. So make payment to *truly* lock in your spot.

I LOVE river tubing!

Every summer, I go inner tubing down the Shenandoah and Potomac Rivers in WV, a little over an hour away. This tradition stems from my days at Virginia Tech, where tubing down the nearby New River was a weekly summer outing.

There's nothing quite like relaxing and floating down a river feeling the warm summer sun on your front, while being refreshed by cool water on your back as you lay nestled in your tube. And now (MID TO LATE SUMMER), without question, is THE BEST time of the year to go... when it's crazy hot and humid, making the water feel 10 times more refreshing!

I've made special arrangements for our group to go river tubing near historic Harpers Ferry for a 1 - 2 hour long trip (depending on water levels). We'll park our car where the trip ends, and we'll then be shuttled 1 1/2 miles upriver where we'll splash and play through some small rapids before beginning our leisurely float down the river. Dropping over shallow ledges along the foot of the Blue Ridge Mountains, we are sure to enjoy this mellow and beautiful stretch of river.

Following the trip, we will adjourn at the Blue Heron Outdoor Grill restaurant (with casual river seating only) for optional food, drinks, and a recap of the afternoon! The restaurant specializes in grass fed beef hamburgers, other tasty sandwiches, cool drinks, and ice cream.

We've got an early bird special for this event of $35! The first 25 paid sign-ups, or those who pay before Sunday, August 22nd (whichever comes first) get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to $40. We have a LIMITED number of spots so make sure to RSVP early and make payment to get the early bird price!

From the Washington DC metro area, please follow these directions:

• Take I-270N to Frederick
  
• Merge with I-70W toward Hagerstown. Move to far right lane immediately.
  
• Take Exit 52 onto 340W toward Charles Town. Stay on Rt. 340 and follow over 2 bridges and into WV.
  
• Make a left onto Millville Rd. (HUGE outdoor Flea Market on the left side). Follow straight, you will go over 2 sets of railroad tracks.
  
• Once you meet back up with the river you will see River & Trail river access on the left (just over the 2nd set of railroad tracks).

From the Baltimore area:

• Take I-70W to Frederick.
