*** It's a great day for a scavenger hunt! See you there! ***
UPDATE #3: If you were unable to secure a spot for this hunt online, you have the option of "flying standby." There are usually 6 no-shows for this event, so you just might be able to get on board. Make sure to come early with exact cash. We will be meeting in front of the Freer building on the mall entrance; look for the balloon!
UPDATE #2: I have arranged a special tour for our group only after the scavenger hunt! While we score your answers you will have an in depth 30 min tour of some of the Freer exhibits. Also, to be fair to those who want to join in and are ready to make payment, I'll be unrsvp'ing those that haven't paid by Monday, February 1st. So make payment to *truly* lock in your spot.
UPDATE #1: There are only 8 early bird spots left. If you haven't already done so, claim your early bird ticket before the price goes up!
Get out your magnifying glass Gumshoes, it's time for the next scavenger hunt!

We'll meet up at the Freer Gallery of Art at 2:00pm. Please be ON TIME! From 2 - 2:30pm, we will get the teams together, distribute hunt materials, and review rules and guidelines.
At 2:30pm the teams disburse and begin the 2-hour hunt! Teams will have until 4:30pm to decipher the clues and solve the riddles. The hunt will take you through numerous exhibits, collections, and artifacts.
At 4:30pm we will collect the results, score each team, and announce the winner. Fandango gift certificates will be awarded to each member of the winning team!
Following the hunt, we will adjourn to a nearby spot for food, drinks, and a recap of the afternoon!
We've got an early bird special for this event of only $20. The first 30 paid, or those who pay before Saturday, February 13th (whichever comes first) get the early bird price! After that, the ticket price will go to $25. This event sells out quick, so make sure to reserve your spot, and get the early bird special!
Please be aware your RSVP is not guaranteed without payment. Further, you must make payment by the early bird deadline to qualify for the early bird price.
Hope to see you there!

Smithsonian (Orange/Blue Line) is the closest metro. I suggest metro / cabbing it if possible. I also recommend using wmata for travel planning.

Chris, we've tried presetting teams in the past, based on those who sign up and pay, unsuccessfully. The reason why it's challenging is because there are always no shows. On average we get 12 no shows for scavenger hunts, and there's no way to predict which "preset" team they might be on. Also, I'd agree with you re: male / female ratio, if this was a "singles" group. But it's not, as mentioned on our main page. Thanks for your comments, and hope to see you out again soon!
The idea of prearranging the teams for events like a scavenger hunt is great. Whenever possible, strive for a balanced male:female ratio for each team. Thanks for your work on this group and rock on!
Also to address the ticket price as we told many on Saturday we do hire a contractor to create the questions as well as purchasing the office supplies and the Fandango gift certificates for each team member. A lot of our time and energy goes into creating and running these events and we do have other operating costs for running this group that a portion of the ticket price covers.
Thank you for the feedback and suggestions everyone. I will try pairing the teams myself next time. In the past I have tried coordinating tables for our group at restaurants in the past. This is difficult since I can not give the restaurant an exact time and number but I didn't think it would be an issue since I knew E&C was a large place. In the future I will call ahead to prevent overwhelming the staff.
We did say in the event posting that we would start at 2:30. I let people know they could wait inside until we were ready to start. Many people come late and there are always no shows so this makes it difficult to for us to organize teams and to start on time. However we will make some adjustments to not punish those who do arrive on time in the future.
What exactly did the $25 go for? If I do my math correctly, with over 58 people having attended, there was at least $1,000 exchanging hands. The most I saw at the scavenger hunt was some paper and pens at a museum that had no entrance fee. My assumption was that Meetup events consisted of charitable volunteers. Is that not correct? I'm not asking for receipts but for everyone's benefit, could you clarify what the $1000 in expenses were for?
Jeannie, there are 4-5 people per team. We try to keep it smaller since it's easier to work together. Everyone will form a team on the day of the event. It's a great way to get to know new friends!
hey how many people are on a team? is that predetermined?
Sorry Ted, drinks are not included in the price!
Drinks after included in the price?
