Who organized?
H. Dean

Having organized several weekend ski trips, they were always a hit. But they were on always in the mid-Atlantic. So now, this year, we're taking the show on the road and heading out west...to Park City Utah!

Sundance! 360 inches of snow each year. Beautiful apres-ski! Friendly people who actually say hi to you on the streets. Imagine that! And several other nearby ski resorts as well. Who wouldn't want to visit Park City, Utah? Everyone whom I know that has been to Park City constantly raves about the outdoor beauty, the mountains, clean air, friendly locals, and nightlife. And of course, the skiing!

WHO SHOULD COME
Skiier or snowboarder? Come. Just interested in the apres-ski and party all night long with the locals and a few celebs? Come. Beginner, intermediate, or advanced? Come one, come all. Within an 8 mile radius are three huge ski resorts- Park City, The Canyons, and Deer Valley.

If you are relatively new to skiing or boarding, I highly recommend this trip because it's so much easier to learn skiing or boarding on great powder...it doesn't hurt when you fall! Utah is the new Colorado.

WHEN
4 nights stay (Leave Thursday February 18th. Come back February Monday 22nd)

I already have people signed up through my Young Adventurers group. The bulk of the attendance will come through my group since it's primarily adventure/outdoor minded people, but I'd like to give this opportunity to those in this group who would welcome a unique event filled with great memories and adventurers. This trip is definitely different than the typical nightlife events so we are only expecting a few signups from this group.

COST and ACCOMODATIONS

  • Booked condo
  • Cost is for 4 nights lodging. Airfare, lift tickets are separate. See below. Plenty of bunks, twins, and Kings.
  • If you have questions or special request, don't hesitate to email me. I'm happy to make any reasonable request
  • washer, dryer, wireless (bring your computer) fireplace, shared hot tub nearby clubhouse with pool, sauna, game room

Bedding accommodation go on a "Pay to play policy"; those who pay the earliest will have the best chance of getting their bed. When you RSVP, you'll be prompted for which accommodation you want. If it seems I can't give it to you, I'll notify you and you have the option to a full refund if you are not satisfied.

***PAYPAL HERE***

AIRLINE TICKETS:Cost is b/w $300-$350

Prices are still pretty high in December for February departure and I want to get a few people paid for the condo first. Around mid December, I'll be watching the travel sites for deals and update you guys. The good deals don't start occurring until after January so we're in no rush. Ideally, I'd like to get a few of us to depart from DC together as this would save on cost such as carpooling, shuttle service, and/or airport parking.

For airline tickets, try Bing's airline engine. Extremely smart engine that will tell you when to buy, when to wait, and other important research data. Better than Kayak.com, in my opinion.

BWI tends to be $40 cheaper than Dulles and Regan National with Regan National being the 2nd cheapest and Dulles being the most expensive. Average price is $350. Anything around $300 is considered a good deal. If you get something from $250-$300, then you just committed highway robbery :)

As soon as most of the lodging fills up, we'll move on to figuring out when and where everyone is leaving from. This will affect how many people we can get to shuttle together upon arriving at SLC Airport.

---------OTHER DETAILS------------

TRANSPORTATION:

Free transit shuttle service will take us to and fro the local ski resorts and downtown so no need for a car rental.

It takes 30 minutes from SLC Airport to Park City using Shuttle Service. Utah Mountain Shuttle gave me a tentative rate of $175 for 9. Slightly higher if we have less than 9. But the majority of us need to fly in at the same time. We'll figure this out soon enough.

REFUND POLICY
We've paid all monies so it's non refundable unless you find a replacement. Refunds less a $29 fee.

ITINERARY

Thursday night will be the traditional potluck dinner at the home. We do this on all ski trips as a way for people to get to know each other. You can either buy or bring something. I suggest guys buy alcohol/soda and girls can bring the food. There is a local shopping center that we can walk to for food and groceries. As with all past ski trips, I’ll be in the kitchen cooking. Anybody else wanna play Iron Chef with me?

Dining out on other nights: Again, it’s up to you. Some people will want to stay home and eat and save money. Others will want to take in the nightlife.

Breakfast: For 3 days of breakfast, everyone can pay me $11 and I will do all the shopping when I arrive. Just add that to the amount when you Paypal me.

Breakfast includes eggs, milk, orange juice, bread, bagels, bacon, cream cheese, butter, jam/jelly. I’ll take special request

SKI RESORTS TO VISIT

Some people will be interested in skiing on the day of arrival. I leave that up to you to organize. I'll be too busy with buying food and other duties so will be unable to do so. For Friday-Sunday, here’s what I suggest:

Friday- Park City
Saturday- The Canyons (it’s the closest to where we are staying)
Sunday- Up to you. I’ll probably stay at Park City. Deer Valley takes longer to get to. There's no snowboarding allowed at Deer Valley

SKI RENTALS
There's a bunch of local ski shops Cost is anywhere b/w $20-$35/day.

QUIET HOURS AND TAKING CARE OF THE HOME

Starts at midnight. This is a courtesy to those who need to go to bed early. This doesn’t mean everything stops but that we simply tone down the noise such as loud conversations or music. Please be considerate of others.

Don't break or damage anything in the home since I have a financial obligation to it. If you do, it will come out of your pockets :) Do your part to keep the home clean as this will make Monday morning check out quicker. Be sure to take trash out including alcohol!

Carpooling or shuttling to the local airport together. You have to organize this on your own but I’ll have a list of people of who is leaving from one of the 3 local airports and you can contact them.

What an amazing time! I think everyone pushed themselves harder on these slopes then they ever have before...it was awesome! Dean, thanks for putting this trip together...you did an awesome job, and I'm really looking forward to the next trip. A special thanks to everyone who rented cars and provided rides! It was definitely appreciated. Hope to see everyone again at the next event!

Thanks for organizing the trip Dean. It was such a blast. Great weather, and mountain, but the best part was the great group we had. I can't wait for next year!

My first meet up trip. I can't wait! I love Kirsten's idea about trying to meet up before the event so we can all get to know each other.

What do you think about having a group meeting before the event so we can all meet each other? I'm a lower intermediate level and hopefully will get better this season after gong out a few times. I noticed you said 8 people for the condo, is there another condo available if more people sign up?

We're using airport shuttle to get from Salt Lake City to condo which is only 30 minutes. Lift tickets aren't included into price. That's way too good of a deal if it was :) I have at least 2 other snowboarders and a bunch of skiiers. Finding someone to ride is rarely an issue because most people would prefer the company even at less challenging trails than to go alone.

I think Erika is right- it would be hard for me to outdo myself after Park City. I'm not sure if anything else would ever compare. This trip was epic. I'll let the stories and photos do the talking. Thanks to everyone for their contributions. It is trips like these as to why I organize and go through the headaches. After 4 nights with each other, we'd either hate each other or love each other. And we all know what happened. Thanks again!
