Okay, time for us to get together for our next happy hour... one of the last remaining days of spring!

We'll be benefiting CarbonFreeDC... http://www.carbonfree... ... a grassroots initiative dedicated to mobilizing DC area residents on one goal: dramatically reducing local carbon emissions... suggested $5 or $10 donation. Please note 80% of donations go to CarbonFreeDC, 20% of donations go to the 20s & 30s Going Out Group to cover meetup fees and expenses.

DJ Teng will be spinning loungy groovy beats for us. Our happy hours typically bring out 150 - 250 folks... and I wouldn't be surprised with a similar turnout this time around. The following groups will be joining us so far:

The Kick A$$ Professionals
The DMV Ladies
NoVa Singles
DC Simplicity
DC/VA/MD Happy Hour
Carbonfree DC
Young and loving DC
German Language Group
Thursday is the New Friday

For those that haven't been there before, Gua Rapo is a sleek lounge with international flair, hookah pipes, and "guarapo" (meaning sugarcane juice) cocktails, for which the place is named after. WE'LL BE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. See www.latinconcepts.com/guarapo.

To help continue the friendly tone of this group... I'd like to again encourage each person to have a GOAL OF MEETING 3 NEW PEOPLE at this event. To help do this, for an icebreaker, we'll put your name in a jar as you walk in, and then give you someone else's name from the jar. Also, 20s & 30s Rockstars, please help make all the newcomers feel welcome to our group!

- J.T.

Courthouse metro (RECOMMENDED) is within walking distance (Orange line), just 2 stops outside of DC, yet still in VA for you NoVA peeps. WE'LL BE ON THE SECOND FLOOR. Suggest metro / cabbing it (esp. during rush hour), recommend using wmata.

With all of us talking about how we don't know each other, the funny thing, we all know each other right now. Now lets make sure we don't just clump together when we're there, lets bring more people in and get to know everyone......at least that's how i feel....lol...

Keisha, I hope the other meetup hh wasn't one of ours! In any event, we have the icebreaker mentioned in the event listing above, so that should help with the intermingling of folks! Khuslen, at our last happy hour at Gua Rapo, there were folks who stayed as late as 10pm! Hope to see you all there!

I with you on this one, Lionel. I'm unsure about going since I won't know any one. I went to another Meetup HH and just felt awkward cause everyone, but me seemed to know each other.

This will be my first night out with the group. Planning to meet a lot of people, it will be fun. I need 2 or 3 volunteers to meet now virtually so when I get there I'm fully comfortable. If interested, please send me an email or a greeting. thanx

I don't get off till 8pm but I'm gonna come early so i can sneak out by 7pm. You don't really need a class, once you start its hard to stop. Its addicting in a very fun, social kind of way.

Things to keep in mind: Hookah comes in all varieties of flavor, some floral, some savory, some fruity, some downright nauseating (Stay away from Double Apple!). Yet it's still smoke, so your going to need a drink that has the body to stand up to it. Even a spicy or smoky red wine can do the job. There are, however, some drinks you should definitely avoid: Anything with fruit juice (b/c of the acidity), light beers or lagers (lack of body), white wine (for obvious reasons). Hope this all helps!

Let's think about Tea: Lighter than coffee, yet still a lingering taste of bitterness, very aromatic, yet a clean finish. Scotch and bourbon are the choice spirits to have with cigars, so that's a start. Yet hookahs are much lighter, so we should probably dilute them some. There's always the classic Manhattan (Bourbon whisky, sweet vermouth, and bitters). For something less old-school, my personal favorite is whiskey or bourbon topped with a few splashes of ginger ale and a crushed lime wedge.

So let's look at the flavors of Coffee: strong, bitter, a bit spicy at times - This makes me want to reach for a beer: the darkest, maltiest, and possibly strongest beer available. This doesn't necessarily mean I want a Guinness, there are plenty of other porters/stouts/ales that fit this bill, some even brewed with the flavors of spice and coffee in mind. A full bodied india pale ale, or equally hoppy beer, would probably suffice as well (Dogfish Head 60-min IPA is a good start)

Thought it was a great time. I like the venue and there were a lot of new faces.

Great people. friendly, good cause... a bit loud and drinks were overpriced but so is everywhere in DC! Loved it!
    •  I would like to see more icebreakers rather than packing a lot of strangers in a loud bar. People were still friendly and interested in meeting others.
    •  It was great, I really enjoyed it

Amazing turnout; great people; great conversation :)
    •  Came with some friends and had a blast with them. Met JT a second time, along with his friends, and they were really chill! The rest of the people who came to the meetup though had dry personalities (i.e. first question they ask is the DC-stereotype "What do you do for work?") These meetups are great to go to with friends but not that great if you're a girl going alone (you'll have sharks all around you unless you like that sort of attention).
    •  It was a lot of fun.
    •  Had a great time and the venue was awesome!!! Just enough space for everyone and lots of comfy seats to sit on. The icebreaker was kind of weak and the drinks were very expensive, but other than that, I had a great time and met some new people.
