Welcome to the 20s & 30s Going Out Group!

We are a community of young professionals in the DC metro area. We hold social networking events such as cocktail parties, dinners, dancing, bowling, outdoor events, wine trips, and much more! This is not a singles or dating group, just people looking to get together and have a good time. We are the largest Meetup group in the DC metro area, adding about 200 new members each month! Membership is FREE, and you only have to be friendly and fun to join!
Our events are scattered throughout DC, MD and NoVA and we try to accommodate everyone. If you have an idea for hosting an event in your neck of the woods, just say the word! Singles and couples are welcome and bringing friends along is ALWAYS encouraged!
So come join us! We'd love to have you as a part of our group. Please provide a photo of yourself when you join so that we know who you are when you come out to join us for an event!!! Thanks!
Hope to meet everyone soon!

Charities
For our happy hours, we typically bring in a charity and raise money for a particular cause. So know you are helping to support a good cause while having fun! See a list of charities we've raised money for in the past and their results!

The word about our group is spreading! Check out what the local media is saying:
FAQsWhy do you charge for events?
- We charge for events to cover the cost of the event itself, as well as to help cover our group operating expenses. Event costs can include supplies such as name tags, pens, markers, icebreaker cards, agenda printouts, etc. For some events, costs can also include bus rental, boat rental, space rental, hayride wagon rental, liquor, beer, wine, food, food supplies, and any staff necessary to help run the event. We also have group operating expenses. We do have a life outside of Meetup, so we've hired assistants to help us run and manage our group. They post events, promote events, send out emails, send out newsletters, manage payments, manage guest lists, manage sponsor ads, upload event photos, manage our Facebook (and other) accounts, to name just a few of their responsibilities. Running a group this large, with as many varied events as we put together for our members, is no small feat.
Is this a singles group?
- No! We welcome singles and couples! While we do host singles-only events from time to time, we are not a singles only group. In general, we have noticed certain events (e.g. club night, happy hours, party buses) do bring out more singles. While others (e.g. BBQs, picnics, bus winery tours) seem to bring out both couples and singles equally. At the end of the day though, everyone is welcome to all events!
Do you host events outside of the District, such as Maryland or Virginia?
- We host events throughout the DMV (District-Maryland-Virginia) area. A good chunk of our events are held in DC-proper, near a Metro where possible, since it *is* the central location and is most fair to everyone. But we do mix it up with events in VA as well as MD.
If I'm unable to attend an event, can I get a refund?
- Unfortunately, since we pay in advance for a lot of our events, and since spots are limited, and as mentioned in all of our event postings, all sales are final. Hopefully, you understand we can't have people canceling and requesting a refund when that spot could have been filled by others. We get a *lot* of refund requests, and the process of refunding money to everyone that requests it, for as many members as we have, and as many varied events as we need to keep track of, is extremely challenging on our end.
If I'm unable to attend an event, can I sell my ticket to someone else?
- Absolutely. We suggest posting in the "Talk about this Meetup" comment box for the event, that you have a ticket for sale. Then, if someone agrees, work out payment between yourselves, and let us know who will be taking your spot.
I'm not in my 20s or 30s, can I still join?
- Our group is for people who *feel* like they're in their 20s and 30s, so as long as that's the case with you, we'd love for you to be a part of our group! The only caveat is, of course, if you are under 21, you will not be able to attend any alcohol related events and you must be of legal age (18 years old) to attend any event.
How can I reduce the number of emails I get from this group?
- Meetup provides a way for us to manage our email settings. Go to http://www.20sand30sg... and uncheck all the notifications you don't wish to receive. If you uncheck all, you will still receive our newsletter (just once a week), and any newly announced events (just once per event)... you WON'T receive all the event reminders (3 per event), message board updates, photo tags, etc. So that should help cut down greatly the number of emails you receive. There are also a couple of settings at the bottom of this page you may want to adjust... http://www.meetup.com.... Lastly, RSVPing no to events will help reduce most followup emails for those events.
I was able to Google myself, how can I protect my privacy?
- You are free to use any name as your "Meetup" name... a nickname, just your first name, a fake name, etc. You are also free to upload any picture as your profile pic (or none at all). So for example, if you use a fake name and no picture, then no one should be able to determine who you really are when they find you via Google. Just go here to make the changes... www.meetup.com/account.
